CEAB scientists participate in a study on the ecology of the dominant cumacean species in Blanes Bay
During a study on seasonal dynamics and community structure of the sublittoral soft-bottom macroinfauna carried on from 1992 to 1997 in Bay of Blanes, ten cumacean species were collected. Density and biomass of Bodotria pulchella, Iphinoe douniae, Pseudocuma longicorne and Pseudocuma simile (the most frequent species) were calculated based on fortnightly samples, from March to September 1992.

The authors of the article describe a new copepod species of Anthessiidae, Anthessius alpheusicolous, found in association with the snapping shrimp Alpheus macrocheles (Hailstone, 1835) in the Medes Islands, NW Mediterranean Sea. The new species is differentiated from its 40 congeners by the formula of the third segment of the fourth exopod, the number and morphology of [...]

Eleven species of Magelona are reported in this study on the polychaete fauna of the seas surrounding the Arabian Peninsula. Five are new to the region and two are new to science, M. montera and M. sinbadi. Additionally, M. pacifica from Panama is discussed and re-described due to its similarity to M. montera.

The hesionid polychaete Parasyllidea humesi was only known from its original description, living in association with the bivalve Tellina nymphalis in mangrove swamps of the Republic of Congo. The discovery of a stable population associated to another bivalve, Scrobicularia plana, at the Gulf of Cádiz (Atlantic coast of Iberian Peninsula) represents the second known report worldwide, and the first for European waters.
