Research

Research at the Bartumeus Lab is focused on the statistical modelling of animal movement. Our goal is to develop mechanistic and evolutionary rationale to understand the emergence of movement patterns. To develop this broad research line we combine mathematical modelling with the statistical analysis of high resolution empirical data, either from the field or from laboratory experiments. Hence, the research at Bartumeus Lab is multi-proxy (it involves theoretical and empirical methods), multidisciplinary (it involves collaborating with empiricists, theoretical ecologists, physicists and mathematicians), and especially prone in applications (from predicting the spreading of an epidemic to developing bio-inspired search algorithms in robotics).
