THE CEAB

The Centre for Advanced Studies, located in Blanes (between Barcelona and Girona, in Western Mediterranean), is a leading, internationally renowned scientific research centre in the fields of marine and freshwater aquatic biology and ecology, as well as in theoretical ecology. We use a wide range of methodological approaches, from field observation and experimentation to modelling and advanced computing. We contribute scientific knowledge and promote its application for the health and conservation of ecosystems, in order to address the current and future challenges of global change.

Research areas

Biodiversity and Ecology

Study of the various forms of life within each ecosystem, their functions, their relationships and how they interact with their environment.

Effects of global change

Research on the impacts of environmental modifications and anthropogenic pressures. Diagnosis of global change impacts on aquatic ecosystems and predictions of their evolution.

Conservation and Restoration

Application of scientific knowledge in order to propose and implement solutions focused on the conservation and restoration of aquatic ecosystems, as well as the rational management of natural resources.

We are water. We are science.
