Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON) Meeting

Banyoles will host, from August 29 to September 4, the international conference of the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON), one of the main scientific networks in the world dedicated to the study of lakes, led by research staff from the CEAB-CSIC.

The meeting, which will bring together nearly 150 experts from all over the world, will have as its main setting the surroundings of the Lake, as well as various spaces and facilities in the city center. For a week, research staff, engineers and environmental managers will share knowledge, experiences and new ideas in working groups, plenary sessions, scientific presentations and workshops, in addition to participating in debates on the management of water and aquatic ecosystems with local agents, as well as in field trips.

The program will also include activities open to citizens to highlight local knowledge and promote scientific and environmental culture.

The town will become the first headquarters of the congress in the Iberian Peninsula and in the entire Mediterranean area.
