The Center for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CEAB-CSIC) and the chemical company Ercros have signed a collaboration agreement to provide knowledge for the benefit of environmental protection within the framework of the Plastic0pyr project.
The agreement aims at activity 4.2. of the project, which consists of conducting an experiment to evaluate the degradation of plastics, bioplastics and natural material in mountain rivers. Both the CEAB-CSIC and the University of Girona (UdG) and the University of Clermont Auvergne (UCA) are involved, which will coordinate the activity.
Both Ercros and the CEAB-CSIC are very interested in this collaboration and want it to represent an opportunity to strengthen relations and increase cooperation in research and technological development in the field of environmental preservation.
The signing of the agreement is part of the Plastic0pyr project, which has as its main objective the prevention, in a sustainable way, of the accumulation of plastics in mountain ecosystems. To meet this goal, it is important to both know and publicize the impact of these materials on river ecosystems.
The decomposition experiment is a key piece in bringing knowledge to this aspect. The project has been 65% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Interreg V-A Spain-France-Andorra Program (POCTEFA 2014-2020). The aim of POCTEFA is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the Spain-France-Andorra border area. Its assistance focuses on the development of cross-border economic, social and environmental activities through joint strategies for sustainable territorial development.
The Plastic0Pyr project studies plastic pollution in the rivers of the Pyrenees
Helena Guasch, from the Center for Advanced Studies in Blanes (CEAB), is one of the main researchers in the European project Plastic0Pyr, which aims to study how to make tourism compatible with the conservation of river ecosystems. The Plastic0Pyr project aims to sustainably prevent the accumulation of plastics in mountain ecosystems in order to make tourism compatible with the conservation of these ecosystems and aims to emphasize prevention, citizen participation to raise awareness of the seriousness of the problem, and in seeking the collaboration of local agents, to solve this problem by seeking solutions together.
