PhD in Biology (2005) at the University of Barcelona, postdoctoral position at the National Environmental Research Institute, University of Aarhus (2005-2008). At present researcher of the program JAE-Doc at the Centre d’Estudis Avançats de Blanes (CSIC). My research is focused on the study of lake dynamics, palaeolimnology and limnological aspects of global change (climate, eutrophication) using pigments as taxonomic markers of photosynthetic organisms (algae, cyanobacteria and photosynthetic bacteria) and as proxies of the processes occurring at different spatio-temporal scales (e.g. grazing, anoxia, eutrophication).

My current projects include a study of algal group composition and pigment preservation in clear and turbid shallow lakes along a latitudinal gradient in South America and the reconstruction of photosynthetic organisms’ composition in periods of high-frequency climate phenomena, such as El Niño – Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), using high-resolution sediment records from Easter Island (Chile), Azores Archipelago (Portugal) and Central Range (Spain).
