This July 11th at 7:00 p.m., the main event of the Catalan Summer University of Nature will be held at the Teatre Patronat in Berga.
The event will consist of a screening of the documentary “Memories of a Sea“, directed by Laura Carrau, which follows the scientific expedition led by two researchers from the CEAB-CSIC, Núria Catalan and Rafael Marcé.
Afterwards, a roundtable discussion will be held with the director and the two researchers.
The team of scientists, specializing in the carbon cycle and its impact on climate change, will travel to Kazakhstan, to the dry bed of the Aral Sea. The objective of the expedition is to determine whether the dried sediments of the former Aral Sea are a source of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and to quantify it. Throughout the expedition, the team will witness the stories of three generations of women whose lives have been marked by this natural disaster, the result of poor environmental management.
The documentary has received awards such as the ACCC Award for Scientific Outreach.
Admission to this event is free and open to all. No prior registration is required.
