Seminar “Microbial functional redundancy in the ocean: current estimates and predictions along climate change scenarios”.
📅 March 12, 2026
🕛 12:00 – 13:00
📍 Enric “Kike” Ballesteros Auditorium (Centre for Advanced Studies, Blanes)
As part of the weekly programme of the Scientific Activities Committee, CEAB hosts a seminar by Pierre Ramond, a postdoctoral researcher at the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC), specialized in marine microbial ecology and functional biodiversity.
The session will address microbial functional redundancy in the ocean, presenting a global assessment based on thousands of marine genomes and metagenomic/metatranscriptomic data. It will explore how this redundancy is distributed across different ocean regions and depths, how it may respond under climate change scenarios, and its implications for the functioning and resilience of marine microbiomes.
The seminar will take place in person at the Centre Auditorium. Although primarily aimed at CEAB staff, it is open to anyone interested.
