Guided tours with the curators of the exhibition “Marine Invasive Species”

We invite you to explore the exhibition “Marine invasive species, the silent threat” alongside the team that created it: a group of researchers from the Centre for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CEAB-CSIC).

The exhibition explains the difference between an invasive species and an introduced one, the main pathways of introduction of these organisms into the Mediterranean, and their effects on marine ecosystems and economic activities.

It also presents future scenarios due to global warming of the waters caused by climate change, as well as the measures that can be taken to mitigate this threat and preserve marine biodiversity.

Each guided tour will be conducted by a member of the team, offering a specialized perspective in their field of expertise.

12/12/2024Emma Cebrian, Head of the Marine Ecology Department. She studies the organization of benthic marine communities: their structure, functioning, and key processes, as well as the impact of human activity and global change on marine ecosystems.

23/01/2025Marc Rius, scientific researcher at the Marine Ecology Department. His research focuses on improving understanding of the ecological and evolutionary consequences of human activities on species and marine ecosystems.

20/02/2025 (*)Xavier Turon, research professor at the Marine Ecology Department. He works with benthic invertebrates, particularly invasive species, and his research areas include taxonomy, reproductive biology, population dynamics, and population genomics.
(*) This session will include a sign language interpreter.

26/03/2025Enrique Macpherson, research professor at the Marine Ecology Department. She works on the prevention, detection, and monitoring of invasive species in marine environments and on characterizing the quality of coastal marine waters.
