Created in 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/euromarinenetwork.eu\/oyster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OYSTER<\/a> (Orienting Young ScienTists of EuromaRine) is an independent working group funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/euromarinenetwork.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EuroMarin<\/a>e network. OYSTER is dedicated to promoting and supporting opportunities for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) in marine science.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_54398\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-54398\" style=\"width: 1157px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-54399\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ceab.csic.es\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/igador-5.jpg\" alt=\" width=\"1157\" height=\"651\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-54398\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Photo 1. Itziar Burgu\u00e9s (left) and Cristina Galobart (right).<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Since its foundation, OYSTER has continually connected with similarly oriented groups and institutions to collaborate on common goals and actions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Engage with and represent ECRs within the EuroMarine network.<\/li>\n<li>Provide skills development, networking opportunities, and professional support for ECRs.<\/li>\n<li>Develop initiatives to support and integrate ECRs within European marine research.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute towards capacity building for ECRs across EuroMarine member organisations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"heading-2 fade-up\">OYSTER\u2019s Activities<\/h3>\n<p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Traducci\u00f3n\"><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Currently, one of the most important activities of the working group is its mentoring program for early-stage researchers working in Europe. The tutoring platform is a service available to the wider European marine science community: its use is not restricted to EuroMarine members and tutors may be from non-EuroMarine institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-54390 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ceab.csic.es\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/oyster1.jpg\" alt=\" width=\"1308\" height=\"479\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Traducci\u00f3n\"><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">In addition to this program, the working group organizes:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"label-1\">Hosting Workshops: Hosting workshops to empower ECRs by supporting their personal and professional development through expert-led skill-sharing sessions.<\/li>\n<li class=\"label-1\">Fellowship Programme: Managing EuroMarine&#8217;s individual Fellowship Program that enables ECRs from EM member organizations to participate in advanced training courses.<\/li>\n<li class=\"label-1\">Mentorship Programme: Administering the EuroMarine Mentorship Program to match ECRs with a specific professional mentor from the EuroMarine network.<\/li>\n<li class=\"label-1\">ECR Conference Programme: An ECR Conference Program which awards the best oral presentation and poster by ECRs in international conferences<\/li>\n<li class=\"label-1\">Conducting Surveys: Conducting surveys to understand, address and disseminate needs and concerns of ECRs working on marine topics.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Traducci\u00f3n\">The OYSTER group is part of the Ocean Decade Alliance<\/h3>\n<p>In 2020, the OYSTER network officially joined the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oceandecade.org\/ocean-decade-alliance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ocean Decade Alliance<\/a>, a global coalition of ocean actors working together to support, enhance, and leverage commitments towards the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"heading-2 mb-medium fade-up\">The group is comprised of more than 20 PhD and postdoctoral researchers.
