Every year,\u00a0an estimated 390 million dengue infections occur around the world, resulting in up to 36,000 deaths. The burden of these diseases is highest in tropical and subtropical areas, but increasing numbers of autochthonous case are being reported from European countries since 2010, raising concerns about\u00a0the potential for the establishment of these pathogens in temperate regions.<\/p>\n<p>To address the complexity of Mosquito-borne diseases (MBDs), the E4Warning consortium\u00a0is made up of an interdisciplinary and innovative team from\u00a012 organisations from Spain, Germany, Greece, Belgium, Switzerland and the United Kingdom,\u00a0with experience in\u00a0entomology, movement ecology, epidemiology, Earth Observation science,\u00a0sensor engineering, sociodemography and spatial statistic modelling.<\/p>\n<div class=\"title-container\">\n<ul>\n<li class=\"main-title\">Vectors ecology &amp; surveillance: high quality real-time information on vectors for a scalable and flexible \u201cepidemic intelligence\u201d<\/li>\n<li class=\"main-title\">Ecosystem barriers to disease spreading: Host and vector dispersal capacities. Movement patterns in complex mosaic landscapes.<\/li>\n<li class=\"main-title\">Earth Observation data: Estimate and anticipate mosquito prevalence and disease risk.<\/li>\n<li class=\"main-title\">Disease forecasting: Dengue forecasting in South Asia and endemic hotspots.<\/li>\n<li class=\"main-title\">Human mobility: How human activity produce differential disease exposure and contribute to the spreading of invasive mosquitoes and diseases.<\/li>\n<li class=\"main-title\">Dengue importation risk: Dengue prevalence in endemic areas and global traffic patterns will anticipate connectivity and importation risk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-lg-4 col-md-4 col-sm-6 features-col\">\n<div class=\"title-container\">\n<p>12 organizations from Spain, Greece, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom participate in the E4Warning consortium. The consortium is highly complementary in disciplinary expertise and background, including entomology, movement ecology, epidemiology, Earth observation, sensor engineering, citizen science expertise, and spatial statistical modeling.
