Predicting water quality and quantity in basins, reservoirs, lakes and coastal areas is essential to assess the health of natural and social systems that depend on water. This project proposes the development of digital twins of these ecosystems, integrating them into short- and long-term forecasting services using innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and remote sensing. This will improve the ACA\u2019s capacity to provide services that understand and respond to climate change impacts on aquatic ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4911\" data-end=\"5480\">Water management in Catalonia faces numerous challenges such as scarcity, pollution, climate change and biodiversity loss. The increasing availability of new climate products and advances in aquatic ecosystem modelling make it possible to produce reliable forecasts of lake and coastal dynamics at regional and global scales. These technologies, together with the use of remote sensing and artificial intelligence, allow us to anticipate events such as floods and droughts, and to project future climate changes, facilitating more sustainable water resource management.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5482\" data-end=\"5788\"><strong data-start=\"5482\" data-end=\"5501\">Main Objective:<\/strong> To co-develop digital twins for predicting water quantity and quality in the Ter and Tordera basins, including catchments, reservoirs and coastal areas, contributing to efficient water resource management, protecting ecosystems and maximising water security in a climate change context.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5790\" data-end=\"6199\"><strong data-start=\"5790\" data-end=\"5815\">Secondary Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5790\" data-end=\"6199\">\u25cf To use digital twins as pilots for the creation of a climate service for forecasting hydrological variables.<br data-start=\"5926\" data-end=\"5929\" \/>\u25cf To strengthen the capacity for assimilating observational data into digital twins through the integration of digital technologies.<br data-start=\"6061\" data-end=\"6064\" \/>\u25cf To adapt the digital twins with the ACA to ensure appropriate adaptation to climate change, drought and other extreme climate events.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6201\" data-end=\"6225\"><strong data-start=\"6201\" data-end=\"6225\">Project Methodology:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"6226\" data-end=\"6761\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1nh4w7r\" data-start=\"6226\" data-end=\"6351\">Development of workflows for predicting key variables in each system, including data assimilation from multiple sources.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"o9qu0x\" data-start=\"6352\" data-end=\"6472\">Co-creation with users and stakeholders to tailor digital twin functionalities to the specific needs of each pilot.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"3z9vvs\" data-start=\"6473\" data-end=\"6548\">Use of high-performance computing for the deployment of digital twins.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"8niym2\" data-start=\"6549\" data-end=\"6676\">Integration of remote sensing into digital twins to improve primary production estimation algorithms and spatial analysis.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1huq9ym\" data-start=\"6677\" data-end=\"6761\">Development of artificial intelligence models to predict water quality variables.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"6811\" data-end=\"6867\"><strong>Principal Investigators: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ceab.csic.es\/en\/personal\/marce-rafael\/\">Rafael Marc\u00e9<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ceab.csic.es\/en\/personal\/pages-jordi-f\/\">Jordi Pag\u00e8s<\/a>.
