My research focuses on understanding how individual differences and social dynamics among animals drive collective behaviors and population responses to environmental change. I lead the research group Animal Behaviour and Environmental Change (ABEC) Lab, where we combine behavioural ecology, experimental biology, freshwater ecology, and environmental science to address pressing ecological questions related to animal behaviour in a changing world. For this we have a dedicated experimental lab for studying individual and collective animal behavior and field sites in northern Spain to study the drying of rivers and its impacts on fish populations. Combining classical ecological and ethological methodologies with custom-built experimental devices and innovative techniques, we aim to push the boundaries of our understanding of behavioural variation and ecological adaptation and unravel key mechanisms in animal behaviour. Ultimately, our work aims to advance scientific knowledge and thereby inform practical solutions for conserving vulnerable ecosystems.
