My doctoral thesis in marine ecology aims to assess the status and trajectory of various areas of the Mediterranean through a regional re-evaluation following the framework of Sala et al. (2012), integrating the valuable historical datasets of Dr Enric Ballesteros.
This research addresses the challenge of the climate emergency by analysing ecosystem resilience to global change, with the goal of translating knowledge into practical management tools for rocky reefs.
Methodologically, the work combines the rigour of underwater visual census techniques with advanced data analysis in R. In addition, the effect of herbivory by salps on Cystoseira s.l. populations will be investigated under increasing marine heatwaves, focusing on the ecological processes that shape biodiversity in shallow habitats.
