I am a predoctoral researcher in the Department of Continental Aquatic Ecology at CEAB-CSIC, and I am enrolled in the doctoral program in Water Science and Technology at the University of Girona.
My research aims to understand how the presence of anthropogenic materials—specifically plastics—affects Mediterranean river ecosystems. A key part of my work involves quantifying plastics and microplastics in the environment and understanding the mechanisms and processes that govern their mobility and distribution.
At the catchment scale, I investigate how land use and human-induced pressures influence the abundance and composition of macro- and microplastics. I also examine how hydromorphology and hydrological variability shape their movement and distribution. Through long-term monitoring, I explore how these processes respond to environmental and climatic changes, including extreme events such as floods and droughts.
Through this work, I aim to provide a deeper understanding of the sources, transport mechanisms, and retention processes of anthropogenic materials, thereby contributing to strategies designed to reduce their environmental impact.
