Juan de la Cierva Researcher

I hold a PhD in Complex Systems Physics from the University of the Balearic Islands. I completed my doctoral thesis at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (IFISC, CSIC-UIB), under the supervision of Dr. Manuel A. Matías. After a research stay at the University of Oxford, I am currently a Juan de la Cierva Research Fellow at the Blanes Centre for Advanced Studies (CEAB-CSIC).

My research lies at the intersection of complex systems physics and theoretical and computational ecology. I combine mathematical models, stochastic and spatially explicit methods, machine learning, and the analysis of climate and remote sensing data. I primarily study the stability and resilience of populations and ecological communities, the dynamics of emerging diseases, and the spatial organization of marine and terrestrial ecosystems. These tools allow us to analyze the effects of global change on biodiversity, including the spread of diseases and the response of coastal ecosystems such as coral reefs and seagrass meadows.
