Cèlia Sitjà Poch

Research Technician

My main interests are biodiversity, ecology and conservation of marine benthic ecosystems. During my PhD I focused on sponge taxonomy and biogeography, assessing the influence of marine water currents on the distribution patterns of deep-sea sponges across the Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean. My interest in marine conservation led me to explore other benthic communities such as macroalgal forests, focusing on their responses to environmental stressors, conservation and restoration.

I am currently a scientific manager at Marine Forest. I act as a transversal figure in the team, linking research to other activities such as project coordination and administrative tasks, resulting in an enriching and dynamic approach for my career.

Research projects I am currently involved in:

CAMBIOMED, EFFECTIVE ,contracte PEREMCAT, contracte Redeia, COASTFRAG.

PROJECTS

Blue Forests, such as macroalgal forests, seagrass meadows, salt marshes and mangroves, are vegetated coastal habitats that cover enormous areas around the world, providing various types of ecosystem services.
The main objective of the EFFECTIVE research project is to develop a comprehensive scientific knowledge base and practical guidance for the conservation and restoration of marine protected areas (MPA's) of the Mediterranean Sea.
