The behavior of social organisms raises significant questions about how these systems self-organize efficiently. My research focuses on understanding how individuals, through movement, modulate their interactions and the information they exchange. I study these dynamics in the context of foraging, a universal process that ensures the survival and reproductive success of organisms. Thus, I investigate how social organisms modulate the flow of information (sociality vs. individuality) to maximize collective benefit (food acquisition) in different scenarios (e.g., food quantity, quality, or distribution). I use ants as a model organism, as they represent an example of “supersociality” by centralizing reproduction in a single individual, the queen.

PROJECTS

This proposal aims to study the processes linked to life in groups (which we call sociality) in an ecological framework, assembling data (both laboratory and field) to theory.
