Núria Catalán

Research Scientist

Nuria Catalan’s research focuses on the study of carbon ciclyng in inland waters. She applies contrasting approaches to the study of organic carbon reactivity, from its molecular composition to its degradation kinetics and from micro to cross-system scales, including understanding its role on ecosystem metabolism and greenhouse gas emissions.

PROJECTS

An innovative initiative that brings together science, art, music, literature, and new technologies (augmented reality). Its primary objective is to increase knowledge and understanding regarding the impacts of the climate emergency on freshwater ecosystems, while highlighting female voices across three key areas: research, vulnerability, and agents of change.
Headwater basins provide water supply, greenhouse gas regulation, and other essential ecosystem services. However, human activities have altered its functioning. This research project investigates how factors of anthropogenic origin alter the dynamics of headwater basins, especially their role in climate regulation.
InventWater will form a new generation of professionals capable of uniting fields with data science, climate, hydrology and water ecology, and who develop the necessary capabilities to translate the knowledge and technical innovations into useful products for the managers.
