The primary objective of the AUMENTA-S project is to increase knowledge and understanding regarding the impacts of the climate emergency on freshwater ecosystems (e.g., rivers, lakes, reservoirs), while highlighting female voices across three key areas: research, vulnerability, and agency for change.
To achieve this, the project employs an innovative approach that integrates science, art, music, literature, and new technologies (augmented reality).
AUMENTA-S builds upon the preceding projects—AUMENTA (FCT-22-18291), AUMENTA-II (FCT-23-19570), and AUMENTA-III (FCT-24-21592)—which produced an illustrated book and an educational guide designed to address the climate emergency from a gender perspective for upper primary school students. AUMENTA-S complements these earlier initiatives through three specific actions:
A1. Expanding the project’s message into the sonic dimension by developing musical pieces to accompany each augmented reality experience.
A2. Broadening the target audience beyond the classroom by engaging other social stakeholders and promoting the project in diverse settings, using music as a vehicle.
A3. Enhancing teacher training on climate change—specifically within the subjects of Music, Visual and Audiovisual Arts, and Artistic Expression—to demonstrate and explore the potential of art as a tool for communicating science and fostering social transformation.
