The Distributed System of Scientific Collections (DiSSCo) is a distributed research infrastructure (RI) that works for the digital unification of all European natural science assets under common curation and access policies and practices to make the data easily FAIR.

Here, we seek funding for the national node (NN-DiSSCo-ES) to ensure a focal role for CSIC and Spain in the DiSSCo transition and construction phases. We base the proposal on more than two decades’ work with European collections through CETAF (Consortium of European Taxonomic Facilities) to combine and standardize the curation, management, and access to European Scientific Collections (SC), and to generate associated research funding. The critical next step is to incorporate all Spanish research collections into NN-DiSSCo-ES, ensuring that these are accessible through common and secure digital protocols, allowing the institutions to improve the quality of data and services they provide, and significantly increasing the capacity of reuse by international stakeholders.

Our aims are to:

  1. Incorporate target CSIC collections to NN-DiSSCo-ES;
  2. Organize and coordinate CSIC collections, assets and services to a successful incorporation into DiSSCo-RI;
  3. Communicate nationally and internationally the strengths and value of CSIC leadership in actions and work packages for the construction phase of DiSSCo-RI.
